8/23/20 why American liberals shouldn't leverage sex paranoia and scandal

Here is the link to my August 23, 2020, Twitter thread about why the history of sex paranoia continues to prove that when liberals use sex paranoia for their own purposes, it does not help them -- or the people they're claiming to serve -- in any way at all.

This is one of my favorite threads that I've ever written.

1/22/20 analysis of a state fair photo to illustrate American sex paranoia

Here is the link to my January 22, 2020, Twitter thread discussion about a photo I found in the book The American State Fair, by Derek Nelson.

This photo showed how one of the state fair attractions was essentially a "live girls" show that was made to look like an exposé of white slavery.

I analyzed what this photo said about the fantasy of "white slavery" and how it is subverted in order to drive the paranoia of sex trafficking and youth sex, which, in turn, drives so much of the bad legislation we see in the United States today.

1/13/20 discussion about labor exploitation as depicted in US law

Here is the link to my January 13, 2020, Twitter thread about why I don't think US laws really reflect the different between things like human trafficking and labor exploitation, and why I think, because of this, all of our US labor exploitation laws, but especially the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and FOSTA-SESTA, need to be completely reassessed.

10/7/19 discussion about rhetoric in FTC's 2019 COPPA workshop

9/7/19 discussion of "tax trafficking"

Here is the link to my September 7, 2019, Twitter thread discussion about a concept I called "tax trafficking."

As one might imagine, I wanted to counterpoise this concept with the concept of sex trafficking. Simply stated, sex trafficking is coerced sex work, usually for no pay. I considered tax trafficking as coerced tax payment, with the taxes being weaponized against the person paying taxes.

I haven't really explored this topic over the years. But I do think it's important, in America, where we operate on the idea of a government by consent, that we consider what it means to consent to our government -- especially when they weaponize all our forms of consent, including tax payment, against us; and when they often justify that weaponization by generating paranoia about things such as youth sex and sex trafficking.

1/26/19 discussion about Marriott's sex trafficking trainings

Here is the link to my January 26, 2019, Twitter thread reaction to the news at that time about Marriott's sex trafficking trainings.

Twitter's platform has twisted each of my threads through 2018 and 2019 out of chronological order. This thread is affected, but is still moderately coherent. My apologies.

1/13/19 discussion about sex work decriminalization being the practical choice

Here is the link to my January 13, 2019, Twitter thread discussion about why I think decriminalizing sex work is the practical thing to do, as well as why I don't agree with the mindset involved when sex workers feel like so much of their messaging needs to address the difference between sex work and sex trafficking.

Twitter's platform has twisted each of my threads through 2018 and 2019 out of chronological order. This thread is affected, but is still moderately coherent. My apologies.

12/11/18 discussion of various things related to FOSTA-SESTA

Here is the link to my December 11, 2018, Twitter thread about some various aspects of FOSTA-SESTA, as I'd been researching them, and as they seemed to be very big topics of conversation for people at the end of 2018.

Twitter's platform has twisted each of my threads through 2018 and 2019 out of chronological order. This thread is affected, but is still moderately coherent. My apologies.

5/9/18 review of some independent FOSTA-SESTA research

Here is the link to my May 9, 2018, Twitter thread review of some FOSTA-SESTA research I was doing independently.

This thread links to a lot of the really great resources, including in my home state of Colorado, that got me started understanding the huge impact FOSTA-SESTA would have on sex work, and which got me shifting to thinking of FOSTA-SESTA as less of a free speech issue and more of a sex worker rights issue.

Twitter's platform has twisted each of my threads out of chronological order through 2018 and 2019. This thread is affected, but is still moderately coherent. My apologies.
